Frequently asked questions
Why work with a travel agent?
Travel agents can take the guesswork out of researching and evaluating the many options of top destinations to travelers, saving you time and the hassles that often come with vacation planning. Sure, you can research and book things online - but wouldn’t you rather work with someone who’s been to the places you want to go, and who’s just a phone call away when something doesn’t go as expected? Here’s a great article about why you should work with a travel agent.
Even better, you’ll find that booking through a travel agent can even get you value-added perks ranging from free breakfasts to room upgrades - after all, hotels and tour guides depend on travel agents for their business, and want to keep their clients happy.
How do travel agents get paid?
We take the travel planning process very seriously, and invest a significant amount of time in researching and planning an ideal, bespoke travel experience for each of our clients. The majority of our revenue comes from commissions - commissions that do not come out of your pocket as the customer. The company you are traveling with will pay the travel agent that commission, and it DOES NOT increase your costs!
Of course, not all our work is commissionable so we do charge a $250 planning fee to cover the many details that go into the trip of a lifetime - arranging transfers, procuring tickets and updating itineraries. This fee also enables us to to be available to you throughout your trip to help with any unexpected situations that may arise.
What about Air BnB and Vrbo?
We don’t book Air BnB, Vrbo and other online rental properties. While these can be great options for trips you book yourself (we’ve used them for our personal travels from time to time), when you’re booking a luxury trip of a lifetime, they carry more risk than we’re comfortable with. By booking with established four and five-star hotels, we can ensure the quality of your accommodations, as well as the quality of the service you’ll receive.
Can you book my flights with points?
Unfortunately, no. As a travel agent, I’m not able to access your airline points or use them to book on your behalf. As a matter of fact, travel agents are no longer paid commissions for booking flights — though we do it for our clients as a part of our value-added services.
Do you do domestic travel?
While we have booked a number of journeys for our clients to Alaska and Hawaii, we don’t book travel within the continental United States as part of our full-service travel planning.
Should I get travel insurance?
In a word, yes. That said, there are a number of important considerations in choosing the right plan and provider. We’ll connect you with resources to help you choose the plan that provides the protection you need; in the meantime, here’s a great article on important considerations in travel insurance.
